Community Information

About Glencoe/Silver Lake

The Glencoe/Silver Lake area is a close-knit community of about 8,000 residents across Biscay, Brownton, Glencoe, New Auburn, Plato, and Silver Lake, with Glencoe serving as the main hub for schools, parks, community programs, and local businesses. Through collaboration among residents, leaders, and local partners, the community continues to nurture a family-friendly environment, strengthen the local economy, and create opportunities that meet the unique needs of its residents.

Like many growing communities, the Glencoe-Silver Lake area faces a shortage of child care, making it harder for parents to stay in the workforce and for businesses to fill jobs, while some families choose to live elsewhere for more accessible care. With the expansion of Highway 212 bringing new growth, addressing this gap is more important than ever.

To support families, strengthen the local workforce, and ensure every child has a place to learn and grow, the Glencoe-Silver Lake area is participating in the Rural Child Care Innovation Program. Through this process, community members, leaders, and partners work together to develop practical, locally driven solutions tailored to the area’s unique needs.
