Montevideo, with a population on 5,383, is a hub for many small towns in the region. Located in
Southwest MN, the community is proud, hardworking, and family oriented. Montevideo was recently
granted a Minnesota Veteran’s Home, a process that took over 15 years.
Although there are many job opportunities in the area, the lack of child care makes it difficult to hire
employees. Many of the local towns look to Montevideo for employment and child care. One of the
city’s largest employers, Jennie-O, is open 24 hours, which creates a need for child care beyond normal
business hours. Montevideo has a need for an additional 99 licensed child care slots for children under 5.
