The City of Becker is in Sherburne County and is situated between the Mississippi and Elk Rivers. The city is located 19 miles southeast of St. Cloud and 46 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The 2022 census reported 4,970 residents living in Becker. This energy-rich community offers a variety of amenities to support industrial and manufacturing businesses, local agricultural companies, and locally owned businesses. The citizens of Becker possess the spirit and energy needed to sustain a healthy and prosperous community.

The City of Becker is currently experiencing a shortage of approximately 265 child care slots, which is having a significant impact on the local economy and community. Becker reports having a large population of dual-income families with more than 3 children making adequate access to child care, a necessity. There is currently a limited number of child care centers and a declining number of family child care providers with few remaining spaces available for children requiring care. Because of these circumstances, residents are either forced to move to another community, unable to work outside the home, or forced to find care elsewhere.

The City of Becker is participating in the Rural Child Care Innovation Program to explore and implement local and right-sized solutions to address child care shortages, and support workforce development, with the goal of positively impacting economic growth.
