Surrounded by pristine lakes and deep forests, Bemidji is a friendly, family community with rich tradition and the right touch of hipness. It has top-tier higher education, outstanding K-12 schools, a major health care center, convenient air service, fine dining, a vibrant arts scene and the hottest commercial buzz in all of northern Minnesota.
Bemidji is a wonderful place to call home. Just ask the 46,000 folks who live and work in and around this big small town.
The Bemidji School District Area currently has 97 licensed child care providers and 3 child care and 3 pre-school or Head Start centers. In focusing on the amount of child care slots available within the Bemidji School District Boundaries, approximately 37% growth is needed in the amount of licensed child care slots to fill the shortfall the community is currently experiencing. The growth of the Bemidji area, businesses in our region, attracting talent and families are subject to face the shortage of child care options with little to no options to grow as a community should these social issues not be overcome.
Through the Rural Child Care Innovation Program, the community is working towards creating sustainable solutions that increase the supply of affordable and high quality child care.
